My Grandfather, Earnest, served throughout the First World War as a driver in the Royal Field Artillery. His job as a driver was to look after the horses that pulled the guns. I am sometimes amazed he survived, when you hear about so many that did not; and because he did, his great-grandson now has the opportunity to serve in Llanwern Cadet Force.

A real ‘War Horse’ hero! When you think of the conditions they went through every day and managing to care for horses with their size and weight, Brave Man! To see the animals dying each day. Also the families who lost fathers, sons and husbands, that dreaded letter arriving. We must never forget! M
