Newport Art Gallery is a real hidden gem on the third floor of the library and museum in John Frost Square.
It’s a tranquil space where you can lose yourself in the works of art and take time to reflect in a busy world.
Evan Walters: Opaque Images
Thomas Rathmell: Swimming Pool
Gilbert Mason: Seascape
Stanley Lewis: Mr William Pritchard, AR Warden, Newport
There is an area for children, where they can play and create their own pieces of art with Lego and fuzzy felts.
The current exhibition in the gallery draws on paintings and sculptures from The Newport College of Art, created by artists associated with the college and its success during the 1960s and 70s.
There is a small space for exhibitions which are inspired by items and work within the museum. At present Images From The Stone: An Exhibition of Lithograph Prints is there until the 3rd June. There is even a Picasso in this modest space.
It’s so good to see Newport through a different pair of eyes… thank you Mandy & Myke 🙂 I need to remind myself to go & explore. …and a Picasso?! Never thought I’d find a Picasso in Newport.
