Should have known better
At my age
Half a century young
To fall in love with my son’s best friend
But these things happen
Sad but true
Always to others
Never to you
What a fool of love I am.
A stupid woman
Head over heels
Running after him
When of course I should know better
My brown-eyed beau
He loves me through
The joy when we meet
The mischief too
He’s happy to see me – who else is?
Clandestine meetings
While my son works
Then into the forest
We run and run
“He can’t sleep with you”
(Eyes rolling)
My peevish son informs me
“Don’t be stupid, act your age!”
For God’s sake Mother, he’s only a dog!
