On a recent ferry crossing in the English channel, we noticed some interesting light cast across the water. The ‘vista’ created reminded us of one of out favourite painters: JMW Turner.

My favourite artist also. I heard someone say Turner once painted the original Newport Bridge. Do you know if this Is correct?

He painted Newport castle around the end of the 18th century. Some of the old bridge is in the painting (which is on display at the old Tate museum in London.)

I like the photos, very much of a Turner impression. It is great you had the camera with you to capture the sea! The stillness helped. M

Actually we did not have the camera and these were taken on the phone!! I think it’s partly to do with having a good eye, partly the right kit (and Iphone camera is not bad) and then just being at the right place at the right time to get the light 🙂
